    Sacrifice on Eid-al-Adha

Following the Eid prayer on the first day of Eid al-Adha, we start to offer a sacrifice  Qurbani to remember the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to Allah (SWT).

A portion of this meat (from a sheep, goat, cow or camel) then goes to help our brothers and sisters in need.

    Observances on Eid

As with any festival and important occasion, we follow the example of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

There are various Sunnah acts of worship you can do on the day of Eid. Discover the Sunnah acts of worship

    Eid-al-Adha prayer

Eid al-Adha prayer is a special congregational prayer performed on the morning of the first day of Eid, shortly after sunrise.

It consists of two rakahs and includes extra takbeerat (saying “Allahu Akbar”) at the start of each rakah. The number of takbeerat can vary depending on your madhab, so follow your Imam.

Before the prayer, it’s Sunnah to do Ghusl, wear your best clothes, and recite takbeer on your way. The Khutbah (sermon) follows the prayer, and one should stay and listen. Find out more about how to pray Eid Salah

    • For Eid al-Adha, you should delay eating until after the prayer, whereas for Eid al-Fitr, it is recommended to eat before the Eid prayer.
    • There is no Zakatul Fitr (also known as Fitrana) for Eid al-Adha, just the sacrifice of an animal if you are financially able to.
